“Development of a Carpathian Ecological Network: Strengthening the Capacities of the Carpathian EcoRegion Initiative (CERI) in Supporting the Implementation of the Carpathian Convention”
The purpose of the project was to support the implementation of the “Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians” (Carpathian Convention) that entered into force in January 2006 after ratification by four contracting parties. The development of an ecological network in the Carpathians, as a constituent part of the Pan-European Ecological Network, is one of the important objectives of the Convention.
The ecological network designed, serves as an important tool for governments and the Interim Secretariat of the Carpathian Convention for the planning of sustainable development.
The project was carried out under the overall responsibility of Wageningen International (part of Wageningen University) and in cooperation with the Carpathian Ecoregion Initiative (CERI), which was responsible for the project implementation in the three target countries.
